Not an Engineering book, For Physicists and Students

This book is great, if you are a physicist or a student attending her lectures. It goes very deep into magnetism at a quantum level, way too deep from an engineering and manufacturing point of view. I was hoping for more specific information on the development of the "new" magnets like the rare earths such as NdFeB and Samariam Cobalt along with more applications than just hard drives and opto-electronics.
Magnetic materials are used vastly in motors, material handling, medical, aerospace and semiconductor industries as well as fun stuff like maglev trains and space applications, none of this is even mentioned in the book. I had hoped for some useful breakdowns of the commercially available materials with grades and hysteresis curves, it is called magnetic materials! I think it would be better to title this magnetic physics.
As an engineer in a magnetics company it is useful only from a theoretical perspective, it does not go into magnetic circuits and the like and that's a disappointment for the relatively high price. The price is mainly because they print on demand and also because it's part of the university textbook racket system between professors and publishing companies. Still if you are competent and interested in the quantum level dynamics of magnetics you should get this, otherwise go for another book.

Magnetics

This is a good book for a first look at magnetics (2nd or 3rd year students). It is relatively up to date and clearly written. My students will enjoy using this book.
